NY Water Tanks

Pastels - 6” x 10”

I have been obsessed with water tanks since I was a kid. And I still love to spend a considerable amount of time hanging out on rooftops. The sky changes so many colors during the course of a day in New York City, with white cotton clouds floating by, shifting shapes as they please. I am compelled to do a few of these drawings each month. Some of these are multiple versions of the same water tank... drawn on a different day, in a different mood, with a different sky.

I don’t have words to describe how fun and liberating it is to contrast the powdery, uneven, whimsical texture of pastels with the rigorous geometrical precision of scaled architectural drawings. It takes a while to get all these disparate mediums and subjects in perfect harmony, and I guess that’s why I enjoy making them so much.

All drawings are exactly the same size, only the orientation changes.
